Joe Nesheim, Design engineer for HP339A

by Joel Nesheim
(Georgetown, Tx)

I spent weeks analyzing and comparing various circuits to use as the basis for the notch circuit used.

I studied Wien bridge, Twin T, Phase shifter and Bridged T circuits, In order to design the auto-null circuits I hand rigged a photo cell and led facing each other in a piece of heat shrink tubing, I was up to my eyeballs in LaPlace transform equations for two years. I was the engineer who had the chore of taking the instrument into production which meant trying to please design, production, environmental, and marketing managers simultaneously. It was exhausting.
