32 Tracks

(Wellington, New Zealand.)

Otari made a 32 track version of the MX-80. It used 2" tape on the standard transport.

I installed one during the installation of Pacific Gold Studios in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea in the '80s.

We had a lot of trouble with the machine control systems. Many requests to Otari produced no response for some weeks. Eventually a box of replacement parts and 'upgrades' arrived. It worked satisfacrotally after these were installed. We believe it was the last 32 track Otari sold but was the one from their showroom and probably the first one made! It had missed out on all of the mods during the production period.

The machine worked fine until the studio went to using ADAT, but that's another story....
